Houses In The Fields is a provocative video that documents the plight of farmers in Minnesota who suffer from urban encroachment. The program speaks to both urban and rural residents about what is at stake. Our relationship to food and its origins become murky, as farm land becomes less and less visible. Children will assume that food comes in a box off a shelf and people will forget the taste of sweet corn, fresh picked that day. Also lost, is the spiritual connection to the land itself. The creative treatment includes poetry and song that inspires one to contemplate the finality of fields gone the way of bulldozers and blacktop.
