EDUCATION

Get Ready!

I n progress...available Winter 2001.

Blue Moon Productions and the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office (HESO) worked together to create a program aimed at 4 very different cultures, but with the same message: to enhance parentıs awareness of college opportunities for their children and explain how the Get Ready! Program can help them prepare for their child's future education. Each 10 minute informational/motivational program was developed in four different languages: Spanish, Hmong, Somali, and English. Drawing on interviews from families and community liasons, the programs present information in light of the perspective of each culture.

Achievement Plus.

VHS ©1999

Achievement Plus is a pilot program of St. Paul Public Schools, Foundations and State and Local governments. It is aimed at improving student performance through parent and community involvement. The video is designed to show people that it is important to make the school a place students want to be, a place where everyone feels welcome. The video centers on the child and shows the impact of Achievement Plus reflected in the faces of the youth that participate. It includes interviews with teachers, parents and Achievement Plus staff to explain in words the philosophy and effects of the initiative. It uses images of the students involved in a variety of activities from science to gardening, to art and woodworking to illustrate how the program is working.

The Amazing Soybean.

VHS, CD-ROM, TEACHER'S GUIDE ©1998

Blue Moon created a striking educational media kit for teachers, which MSGA distributed free of charge to school districts. It includes a CD-ROM educational game, a video, teacher's guide and a color poster. Each element is carefully designed so that they can stand alone or work together to reinforce learning on many levels. The video is a zany, fast-paced piece that's packed full of information and hosted by a character named The Dean of Beans. The CD-ROM is an interactive game called Operation Soybean, where the student must explore different rooms around The Dean's laboratory to find more information about agriculture, soybean history, nutrition and industrial uses for soybeans. The package can be found on classroom shelves across the Midwest.
